HOT IN THE CITY

Harley has just inherited a building in Coney Island, Brooklyn! Things are looking up for her as so she thinks. There is a bounty on this puddin’ that plans to put an end to her new lease on life. Can Harley survive Brooklyn? Can she pay for all the expenses of owning a building? Will she be able to fine employment? Her taxidermy beaver doesn’t think so!

The Ups: The zero issue was a blast and the first issue is the perfect follow up. As promised, This issue was not like the previous. No wall breaking which was a bit of a relief. I enjoyed the zero issue but a Deadpool-esqe book would drive me crazy. Connor & Palmiotti crafted an entertaining issue. They place Harley in the real world. She owns a building now and with that comes expenses and finding a sustainable income. Who knew that this book would deal with such real life issues. I love it! We are talking about a crazy character like Harley who is going to solve these problems in her crazy ways. She goes on one normal job interview then to another one with a Harley approach. Connor & Palmiotti seem to have a good grasp on the behavior of Brooklyn. From accents to mannerisms, these two Brooklynites bring the experience to you. We get introduced to a new supporting cast and I must say I am a fan already. I do enjoy Harley’s approach to solving problems especially the dog scene. It was funny and great! The art by Hardin is fantastic! His pencils are loose but I think that is part of the visual aspect of the book. A loose character needs loose pencils. Sinclair’s colors are phenomenal! This book is bright and colorful even in its dark humor.

The Downs: It took so long to make this idea into a series!

Overall: Connor & Palmiotti have gained my loyalty and ensured that I continue to pick up the issues. They are the perfect combo that can produce Harley Quinn in perfect form. This issue was a lot of non stop fun! Hardin’s art with Sinclair’s colors is a visual galore. If you were not sure about picking up another new series, have no fear this is a guarantee hit!
