All-New X-Men #20 Review

All-New X-Men Digital Zone-Empire #20 - Page 1

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis

Artist/Cover: Mahmud Asrar & Brandon Peterson/Brandon Peterson

Colorist: Israel Silva & Marte Gracia

ENTERS X-23!

X-23 has been rescued by the All-New X-men. She has been through a lot with Avengers Arena and being tortured by the Purifiers. She has woken to being surrounded by familiar face but would she trust them? The answer is SNKIT!

The Ups: Bendis is truly one of the best writers in handling characters’ emotions. X-23 reaction to her current situations felt very natural and the awkward nature of young Cyclops is hilarious. Just the idea of Scott and a female Wolverine is all kinds of weird and funny. I could not stop laughing the whole scene. Bendis progresses the story nicely without losing any balance or humor. The action with the Purifiers was well set up and there is even a good twist to it. The art by Asrar was beautiful. Seeing how he draws X-23 makes me wish he was on this book with Immonen. The transition from Asrar to Peterson was done smoothly. The art did not lose any momentum, especially with a great color team of Silva & Gracia.

The Downs: This was too good to be bad.

Overall: Bendis character-building in the issue was well done and was very entertaining. The art team did just a great job putting this issue together. This series continues to be one of the top current X-men series. The stories are driven and entertaining  that you’ll never put it down. This issue keeps delivering and it is a must read. My top pick this week.
