Superman/Wonder Woman #3 Review

Superman-Wonder Woman #3 - Page 1

Writer: Charles Soule

Artist/Cover: Tony Daniel

Inker/Colorist: BATT/Tomeu Morey

ZOD

Superman deals with the supercharge he got from Apollo while Wonder Woman learns the meaning of Christmas. It is a Christmas story until Zod returns! He has escaped the Phantom zone and is loose on Earth. Can Superman and Wonder Woman contain the madness! Plus an appearance by Batman and a group of heroes

The Ups: Soule continues to write an intriguing story that focuses on the personal aspect of Superman and Wonder Woman. We get to see Superman on a more human level as he is concerned with the recent events of issue 2. He begins to doubt himself and seeks comfort from a friend that you may know as Batman. Their interaction was a nice change of pace from the usual. You can see that they don’t hide things when they talk to each other and surprisingly Batman cares about his super friends (yeah I went there). Diana’s story focuses on her trying to find a gift for the man who has everything. It was a treat to see that Wonder Woman cares deeply about Superman and is trying to make sure he knows that. Their relationship is growing on me due to Soule’s writing. Zod also makes an appearance and his actions take an interesting turn but you can see that he is up to something. Daniel continues to bring his beautiful pencils in this issue. The line work and perspectives are great with the close up details being one of his best. Morey’s colors makes the art even more astonishing.

The Downs: The art loses a bit of the details at times when characters are in the background. This is expected but it is more noticeable than usual this issue.

Overall: This is still the Superman book that I prefer reading. It is also the Wonder Woman I prefer reading. Soule is writing a strong beginning to the series and this issue is great as well. The relationship dynamic keeps you in your seat but the art team is what brings it all together visually. This is the team up that Batman/Superman should be jealous of.
