EARTH 2 #17 REVIEW

Earth 2 #17 - Page 1

Writer: Tom Taylor (Injustice Comic)

Artist/Cover: Nicola Scott / Ethan Van Sciver

Inker/Colorist: Trevor Scott / Pete Pantazis

THE DARK AGE BEGINS!

Tom Taylor’s first issue! The earth’s Wonders and the World Army joined forces to battle Steppen Wolff and his Hunger dogs of Apokolips. An all out war has taken place with grand destruction. The Wonders are beaten and the World Army have fallen apart, Stepphen Wolff has won! or Has he…

The previous issue ended with a Boom. Brutaal of the Hunger dogs of Apokolips has killed Steppen Wolff unleashing a burst of destructive energy on the Earth. When the smoke clears Brutaal is actually Kal-L, Earth 2 Superman!

The Ups: I must say that I am sadden by the departure of writer James Robinson and wish him luck at Marvel. Those are some big shoes to fill for the new writer. Tom Taylor is DC Comics choice for successor and he did exceeded expectations in his debut. It is a little too early to tell if he has truly grasped the feel for the book since he most likely led from Robinson’s plot. Once a new arc begins, I can really see what he can bring to the series.  This is still a strong start for Taylor with his experience with alternate chaotic world in Injustice. Glad to see that Nicola Scott is still the artist on the book which helps with the transition of a new writer. Scott is one of the prominent female artists of the industry and proves it here. Her tight pencils give her characters great details that are amazing. The page setup makes panel transitions easy to follow that gives readers the full experience of the story. The Ethan Van Sciver’s cover is fantastic! My favorite cover of the week.

The Downs: There is not enough pages in each issue but I do like the $2.99 price line so I won’t complain anymore.

Overall: Tom Taylor leads of strong with his debut issue. The issue does not lose any momentum from the last. Nicola Scott does a tremendous job on every page and reminds you that this book is awesome. I don’t need to sell this book to you because it sells itself!
