THE TRIAL OF JEAN GREY: PART 4 OF 6

“Ew, what are they doing? Some fathers hug and care about their kids. Not ours. But you know, some…at least that’s what I’ve heard…”

Jean Grey is a prisoner of the Shi’ar now for crimes she has yet to commit and is making a point to prove that. Meanwhile the young X-Men and the Guardians travel to the Shi’ar homeplanet they unexpected run into someone from Cyclops past, his father Corsair!

The Ups: Bendis has done an incredible job meshing these two world together and bring a story that both of the groups benefit from. The appearance of Corsair was a pretty sweet touch to the story which we already know will lead into young Cyclops having his own solo series (I’m still up in the air about that one) but it gives the story some heart in the mist of all the chaos. Once again Pichelli and Immonen show why they are two of the best artist today with some much amazing detail and designs for the Shi’ar planet as well as bringing out such powerful emotion from all the characters. Von Grawbadger and Ponsor make this comic the visual fest that it is with such a great blend of lights, colors and effects that make this series such a joy to look at.

Guardians of the Galaxy #12 - Page 5The Downs: This was definitely a filler issue just to get a lot of the in between of the story out of the way. Nothing pivotal really happened but more of just an understand of what exactly Jean Grey did when she was possessed with the Phoenix which I felt was to give more of an insight for readers who don’t really understand why the Shi’ar, but mostly Gladiator, are obsessed with going along with this trial. This was just a big halt in a rather fast paced story and I was just hoping even with all the story telling the pace would of kept up.

Overall: We’re getting an understanding of where this story might lead and this issue is definitely building up to something strong in the next two issues. Both these series are great and they are even better together and this is one arc that should be on your radar
