Talon #14 Review

Talon #14 - Page 1

Writer: James Tynion IV

Artist: Emanuel Simeoni

Colorist: Jeromy Cox

END OF THE RUN

“I’m the boss now. You don’t get pants until I say you get pants.”

Everything Calvin Rose has gone through since his return to Gotham has lead to this. Closing in on the man who made him into a Talon in the first place, Sebastian Clark, but will have to go through the Gotham Butcher Felix Harmon first. Will Calvin and his team be able to end an end to Clark before Batman steps in and shuts Calvin down?!

The Ups: Tynion wraps up Calvin’s battle in an emotional and action packed issue and cleans up the story in a proper fashion. ‘Talon’ for me has been the bat-clan series that is very underrated and developed an interesting character in Calvin Rose. While he might not be the strongest or the most intelligent but he always felt like the underdog you always wanted to cheer for and a likeable family man who was able to bring together his own team to take down the Owls. The surprise in the ending put a smile on my face as to what direction Calvin will be going in once his series wraps up in March and this is something everything should be excited for. Cox brings out some crazy coloring bring out the dark and grimy feel the Talon series has always brought out.

The Downs: The one thing that really hurt this issue was Simeoni’s inconsistent art throughout. In the beginning everything looked pretty solid but once Calvin started looking like Red Skull, things start going downhill. The most noticeable thing were scenes of Casey, she is missing her left eye which she lost at the hand of Harmon a few issues back, but there were two scenes where she had her left eye and then it would disappear again. It’s just a little disappointing the Simeoni couldn’t keep up the great job he has done with his artwork up to this point where it didn’t come off very rushed.

Overall: Tynion and Simeoni have had a great run and closes up Calvin story nicely and hints an exciting direction he is now going in. It’s a shame his solo series is coming to an end but Tynion has definitely made it known that this not the last time we will see the Talon Calvin Rose.

    • Thank you very much for your kind words. Actually, the founder designed the site and a mutual friend helped design the logo. We appreciate that you check us out and enjoy what we do, we’re only just beginning.
