Shadow of a Doubt

“You lie to me for months, and you’re worried about the door?!”

Writer: Troy Brownfield

Artist: Jacob Bear

Colorist: Erick Arciniega

After Sela’s intense battle with Rita, Sela discovers that her boyfriend Warren is none other than Jack Frost! With Frost plotting to take over the Nexus can Sela deal with the fact that the man she loves is the villain shes been after all this time?

The Ups: A slower pace after the action packed issue but keeps the story in motion. Brownfield does  a nice job starting the issue off with some casual conversation to ending the issue with some pretty intense scenes, something I did not see coming back was pleased with the leap the story took. The interactions between Sela and Frost show legit emotion and nothing too corny that kept me interested in their relationship and how this will affect the upcoming story arc. Bear brings me back to the 1990’s with the art style in this issue, the feel is very retro with the big muscles, big hands, and of course big chest. This is a nice nostalgic break from all the intense over the top art from DC and Marvel, as there’s nothing wrong with going back to basics.

The Downs: The only problem I had with this issue was with the coloring. Arciniega helps bring the 90’s feel to Bear’s artwork but in some scenes the faces come off a little pasty and the colors as simple as can be. Can’t really blame Arciniega too much with the lack of action in this issue but seeing what this series has done in the past, was a little disappointing.

Overall: Another solid entry in the long running Grimm series. With some great story telling and a lot of seeds planted, the upcoming story arc is building up to be something to look out for. And with their 100th issue coming up you can bet this is all leading to something big!
