Uncanny X-Men #13 Review

Uncanny X-Men #13 (2013) - Page 1

Battle of the Atom: Chapter 8

“Mutants fighting mutants. It makes me physically ill.”

W: Brian Michael Bendis A: Chris Bachalo C: Marte Gracia

The battle to defeat the evil X-Men of the future is upon us! Can Cyclops along with his team and the real future X-Men save the original X-Men?!

The Ups: Almost coming to the end of this story arc and the pieces are all starting to come together. Bendis starts to pick up the pace in this issue with the true intentions of the evil X-Men being revealed and their oncoming battle with Cyclops and the real future X-Men. The build up is finally paying off and the action scenes are definitely a help. Who doesn’t want to see Colossus with his amazing handlebar mustache and his sister Magik welding the same powerful sword and bring the hurt? Once again the artwork is top notch for this issue, Bachalo does an amazing job keeping all the characters detailed with so many X-Men on the page at once. The action scenes were explosive and chaotic and bursting with great colors as Gracia has done throughout this story arc.

The Downs: The thing that has constantly bugged me about the story is the extremely slow build to the whole purpose behind the story which we still do not know. There was an interesting twist but all we’ve been giving is small bits here and there to the grander point. Another concern is that the big twist will come all at once and not be a big reveal as I’m hoping but even with that I’m still looking forward to how its going to end.

Overall: Great issue with a lot of action and a few good twist finally being revealed. I have been enjoying this story and Bendis definitely know how to keep someone wanting more. Make sure to go pick this one up.
