AWAKENING

“This girl is crying out for help, Striker. I’m not going to ignore it.”

In this age of computers, life can be extremely cruel to children and for children in the Marvel universe it can be a lot worse. The Inhuman outbreak is affecting man, woman and child alike, the internet and social media outlets is only making this worse in the mind of the young generation and even worse to the young kids affected by the outbreak.

The Ups: Today news is spread like wildfire through social media like Twitter and Facebook with people twisting and bending the truth while others unleash cruel and hateful remarks with no remorse for their actions. Matt Kindt brings this horrible truth into the story of this issue and it fits well for a story featuring members of the younger X-men and students from Avengers Academy. With the story being almost narrated by four young kids discussing the events over Twitter and the main character Fiona posting up pics of how the outbreak affected her and changed her. This is all done to emulate how the younger generation is so quick to judge others or look for attention in all the wrong places and how just words can effect someone’s life and in this case for a young girl changed forever and trying to cope with it. I applaud Kindt for creating a story that work for the young heroes in the story as well for the younger readers all while proving a strong point about internet bullying and the backlashes of the words.

The Downs: While only a minor issue the artwork from Davidson and Beaulieu was very shaky throughout. In the beginning the characters come off a little awkward especially with the character Fiona drawn with such huge eyes that almost look like they are popping out. The color also comes out a little dry and nothing really popped for me. I will say this though there is one page with Striker drawn and colored to amazing detail but unfortunately that was it.

Overall: The art could not hurt such a wonderfully written by Matt Kindt touching on a powerful subject being mixed with the huge Inhumanity event going on. The ending definitely left me wanting more and this is one tie in worth checking out.
