IRON METROPOLITAN

Tony Stark and his brother Arno sit down and combine their brain power to plan a brighter tomorrow for Earth, but this isn’t as easy as it would seem, even for two super-geniuses.

The Ups: The best part of this issue was seeing Tony Stark interact with his new brother. Seeing the two super-geniuses bounce ideas off of each other lead to some interesting sci-fi concepts and inventions. It’s also really interesting to see Tony Stark outside of his Iron Man persona, while interacting with his brother Tony feels like more of a scientist who sincerely wants to make the world a better place. While Tony has participated in some super-scientist-team-ups in the past this relationship feels a little more personal than what we’ve seen before. Joe Bennett illustrates some really fantastic sci-fi imagery and Guru eFX’s colors bring those spectacles and inventions to life.

The Downs: This issue is kind of slow in terms of actual story progression. While there’s a great ending to this issue that teases a future story arc the issue itself is just the Stark brothers getting to know each other. I understand why Tony and Arno needed an issue of bro-time but part of me would have liked a little more plot advancement in this issue.

Overall: This issue was a nice slow exploration of Tony and Arno’s relationship and their plan for the future. Sci-fi fans will see a lot of cool ideas and art to match it. Even though not too much happens in the issue itself the ending does introduce some conflict in the Stark brother’s future, and I can’t wait for that story to start. All in all that was a very enjoyable issue but I feel like the real fun is on the way.
