THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO KENTUCKY

“Because I don’t trust you not to shout “baba booey!” from the cheap seats”

Daredevil definitely had the time of his life and second life after he went south to Kentucky to follow the lead given to him by Doctor Strange. After being shot in the chest by a crazy mob, taken in and revived by a group of power monsters and overcoming a haunted and protected house, Daredevil returns home to continue his attack on the Serpents.

The Ups: Waid and Rodriguez continue to prove why you don’t need super powers to be an amazing superhero. While this time around the story is not really as over the top as it was in the last issue, we are shown what we as humans can do with the power of words (well mostly Daredevil does some butt kicking) and determination. I really enjoyed this approach since it gave me a better understanding of the world as Daredevil sees it and how it can only take a good plan and some dumb luck to save the day. As always, Rodriguez and Lopez do an amazing job on the old school style art, I really liked how Doctor Strange was drawn almost as an old grumpy man dealing with the young whippersnappers of the crazy city.

The Downs: This issue was very much on the short side compared to the last few issues and all while a great story was being told it did almost nothing to progress the main plot. Granted there are two more issues till the reboot, Waid and Rodriguez have some time to play with the story but this felt more like a filler issue and a break from all of the crazy action.

Overall: Short but sweet and it hit me in all the right places. With two more issues till the series reboot I’m excited to see where the end is going to lead us into the upcoming new series but Waid, Rodriguez, and Lopez are definitely the men to get it done is such a wonderful fashion.
