The man behind Brian Michael Bendis inspiration to create Miles Morales is finally becoming the character he always wanted to be. “Community” and rap star Donald Glover is set to play the role of the Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales in the upcoming “Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors” series on Disney X D.
For years, Glover wanted to play the character of Spider-Man as he is a huge fan, even to go so far as to do a Twitter campaign to get the lead role in the Amazing Spider-Man reboot.
With “Spider-Verse” looming, the animated series gets in on the action as Spider-Man is forced to chase the Green Goblin through parallel universe who is collecting the DNA of all the different Spider-Men. Some of those characters include Iron Spider, Spider-Girl, Spider-Man 2099, and of course Miles Morales.
In an interview with USA Today, Glover had this to say regarding what being Spider-Man means to him and the significance of the role itself.
“That’s the great part about the Spider-Man costume: He can be anybody. Spider-Man could be a girl. Spider-Man could be an old man. You don’t know. So I just tried to be as me as possible, because you’re always just going to bring it back to yourself when you watch the show.”
”Spider-Man is the best because you just don’t know who he is, and he’s funny and he’s poor. I understand Spider-Man a lot on that level. He’s just trying to make it.”
