*WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT*

Colorist: Jeremy Cox

“There’s one very important lesson you learn about PERFORMERS. The bigger they smile for the audience…The more dangerous the stunt.” – Dick Grayson

When I first started reading the “Grayson” series, I was afraid that now that he is no longer Nightwing and pretending to be dead, his personality would change and we would lose the Dick Grayson we once knew. However, the above quote proves that it is in fact the exact opposite. I have always thought of Dick as a sort of DC version of Spider-man when he was Nightwing with all his quips, sarcasm, and playful attitude and that is why I like him so much. I feared we would lose that once “Grayson” started up but the above words opened my eyes to the fact that Dick will always be our beloved Nightwing at his core, no matter what setting he may be in.

Writer: Jeff Lemire

Artist: Andrea Sorrentino

Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo

“This is about more than REVENGE. This is about more than a VENDETTA. This is about sending a MESSAGE. A message this city…And this country…Will NEVER FORGET.” – Richard Dragon

Richard Dragon’s explanation about why he chose to take down all the other big criminals in Seattle and try to take Green Arrow’s life remind of something the Joker would say to Batman or what Bane was trying to to in “Batman: Knightfall”. As I read the words the same sense of worry and fear sent a chill up my spine as Dragon explained that his motivation is not just to hurt Oliver but to hurt the entire city as a whole. That kind of mentality is nothing short of insane in my eyes and these words were a sheer stroke of mastery that truly emphasized the feeling of true evil manifested as a man. Hats off to you Jeff Lemire, you really know how to breathe life into even the most sinister of characters.

4009367-09THE PUNISHER #9

Writer: Nathan Edmondson

Artist: Mitch Gerards

Colorist: Mitch Gerards

“Los Angeles will have to wait. As much as I’m not a fan of L.A….I have a feeling I’m going to like this Central American prison even less. Home will have to wait. Damned self-righteous Avengers.” – Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher

Frank Castle has always been about punishing those who would do harm to the innocent and making sure that punishment was quick, lethal, and permanent unlike any other would be heroes too afraid to truly clean things up. He’s had multiple run-ins with the law and even the Avengers while waging his war and every so often it causes him to be set back a little. Unable to return to L.A. because of Black Widow’s interference in his escape, Castle ends up in a prison far from home. I like this quote because even though he was caught by an Avenger and clearly not a big fan of them he does not try to impede in their duties because in the end they want the same thing he does. Although, I’m sure, in other circumstances he would probably try to defend himself, I believe Edmondson allowed Castle to go to prison because it will not stop him. He is a force of nature and in time he will return to the City of Angels despite the “self-righteous Avengers” annoyance.

300px-Legendary_Star-Lord_Vol_1_2LEGENDARY STAR-LORD #2

Writer: Sam Humphries

Artist: Paco Medina

Colorist: David Curiel

“Peter…You risked your LIFE back there. If you didn’t want the MONEY, then WHY did you–?”

“For the ADVENTURE! For the GLORY! Because I was bored.” – Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord explaining to his sister Victoria why he does not want any reward.

Although Peter Quill is known across the galaxy as the gunslinging outlaw Star-Lord who mainly looks out for himself, he does have a heroic side that shows itself every now and then in his endeavors. I strongly stand against this quote in a very specific way. I believe that Star-Lord did not do any of the things he did this issue because he was bored or just wanted adventure. I think he has an innate determination to stand up for the little guy and to do what’s right when the time calls for it. Why else would he be a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy?

300px-Rocket_Raccoon_Vol_2_2ROCKET RACCOON #2

Writer: Skottie Young

Artist: Skottie Young

Colorist: Jean-Francois Beaulieu

“I mean, I love roughnecking around the galaxy, but now it seems there’s someone from my home planet. If there’s one, maybe there’s more. Then what? Do I settle down? Do I become a dad? What if my daughter wants to start dating?!?!” – Rocket

Skottie Young is truly a master of comedy in the way he perfectly captures Rocket’s playful and careless demeanor in his body language and especially in his dialogue. Almost nothing about this series so far is meant to be taken serious in my eyes but that does not take away from the overall story, thankfully. Back to the quote, this one really stood out to me because of the time and place Rocket said this line. He’s in prison and seems to be unaffected by that fact while speaking and that is what really made me laugh out loud and made this quote really worthwhile.
